Compliance Visualiser
Engine & Overrides, Now in One Tab

Managing compliance across multiple jurisdictions can be complex, especially when you need to tailor settings for specific markets while maintaining a global baseline. That’s why we’re excited to announce a major upgrade to our Compliance Visualiser. 🔍📊 Now, when configuring your product in the Developer Portal, the Engine and Overrides tabs are unified into a single interface. You can configure and view overrides directly within the compliance visualiser, making it easier than ever to understand and act on your compliance strategy.
What’s New
Previously, configuring your compliance strategy and managing market-specific overrides meant jumping between two separate tabs — Engine and Overrides — and toggling back and forth to see the impact of your changes. This workflow could be time-consuming and made it harder to get a holistic view of your compliance posture for across different countries and settings.
With this significant quality of life upgrade, you can now view and adjust your global and market-specific compliance rules in one streamlined interface. The Compliance Visualiser is now available right where you need it — on the Engine & Overrides page — so you can instantly see how your changes affect permissions and requirements across jurisdictions, without ever leaving the page.
Case Study: Loot Boxes & Teens 🎁
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC)’s January 2025 enforcement action against HoYoverse, the makers of Genshin Impact, highlights just how quickly compliance expectations can shift — and why adaptable compliance tools are essential.
Let’s say that you operate a game with loot boxes, and your current configuration has a compliance strategy based off of Mandatory Legal Requirements only. Under this setup, this generally means that your loot boxes would not require verifiable parental consent (VPC).
As the FTC’s settlement with HoYoverse required the company to obtain VPC for all players under 16 to purchase loot boxes, we responded by creating a conservative threshold age of 16. However, because none of the underlying statutes (neither COPPA nor the FTC Act) explicitly mentions 16 as an age threshold, we listed the requirement as an Inferred Legal Requirement.
Let’s then say you want to gate loot boxes at 16 to keep pace with this settlement, but you want to do so without changing your overall compliance strategy. To do this, you can simply apply a Permission Override of 16 for Loot Boxes (Gameplay Impacting) in the US directly from the Compliance Visualiser.

This targeted override allows you to stay aligned with emerging enforcement cases in higher risk markets, while maintaining your preferred compliance posture elsewhere.
Case Study: Public Profile in the EU 🧑💻📣
In the European Union, many member states use a threshold age of 16-18 for the Public Profile setting, due to recent decisions by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) against TikTok and Instagram. However, this can create a potential friction point in the user journey — particularly in countries that use 13-15 as their minimum digital age of consent — where a child might start playing a game freely, but later require VPC to enable a single feature. In addition, the specific context around your public profile feature may justify taking a less conservative approach.

To account for these issues, you can use the Permission Override feature in the compliance visualiser to soften this requirement, or eliminate it entirely.
