Introducing KnowledgeKit
A Day in the Life of a Product Counsel: How KnowledgeKit Powers Confident Youth Compliance

For anyone driving product compliance, clarity is everything — but finding it in the patchwork of global regulations can be resource-intensive. At k-ID, we built KnowledgeKit to offer one place where yesterday’s uncertainty becomes today’s practical answer.
For Jim, a product counsel at a fast-growing gaming company, his day begins the way many do — with a flurry of messages from teams around the world.

Day in the Life of Jim, Product Counsel
That’s why Jim starts his day with k-ID’s Regulatory Hub, a living database of curated regulatory intelligence covering 195+ countries with over 22,000 legal sources and 100,000+ data points. It distills the laws, guidance, enforcement cases and best practices that define how online products can safely engage with younger audiences around the world.
Each jurisdiction breaks down requirements across dozens of categories — from digital consent age and parental verification to privacy notices, monetisation models, and trust & safety obligations. Beyond that, we map dozens of online features that are top of mind for global regulators.
📘 Here is a full list of online features that we track.
This includes:
💬 social features like chat and public friend lists
📢 marketing features like targeted ads and push notifications
🛒 commerce features like in-game purchases and loot boxes
🎨 content creation features like user-generated content (UGC), precise location sharing, and gameplay streaming
🤖 advanced features like AI-generated avatars and AI chatbots
Each entry is tagged with a 6-point necessity level and linked to primary legal references, helping teams understand not only what is required but also on what legal basis.

It’s 9am. Pam from Marketing pings: “Can we allow under-16s to create public profiles in Germany?” Jim turns to KnowledgeKit and relishes that, unlike the old days of digging through clunky PDFs and lengthy legislation, he’s able to find a pragmatic, actionable answer at his fingertips.
Jim quickly discovers within the survey for Germany that there’s actually been an enforcement on this very issue. By accessing the TikTok decision, he reads how public profiles became a key regulatory issue. With case law summaries at hand, he reaches a confident decision.

Midday: Tackling New Laws
By late morning, Jim faces the next wave of questions: the latest enforcement status on emerging laws. Marcus from Compliance is first: “Is the new privacy law in India enforceable yet?”
“That’s a good question!” Jim thought. Jim understands that the subordinate rules to enforce the Indian Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP) Act have been much anticipated, and he recalls a public consultation on the draft rules earlier this year, but he’s unsure of the latest status.
A quick check with KnowledgeKit shows him that while the DPDP Act is still in flux pending final implementing rules, upcoming requirements are already mapped — allowing him to prepare before enforcement begins.

India — Age Threshold
Then Ming from Product chimes in about Brazil’s new child protection rules: “Heard the Brazil ECA just got passed. Any changes for targeted ads/profiling?”
Jim quickly toggles to Brazil’s page. At a glance, he sees that the minimum age for Targeted Advertising will soon increase from 12 to 18, directly impacting monetisation strategy — a Pending Requirement he immediately shares with the Product and Revenue teams.

Early Afternoon: Trust & Safety and Content Rules
Later in the day, Sherman from the Player Support team raises a trust & safety-related question: “Do we need to remove flagged deepfake content in Indonesia?”
Jim navigates to the Trust & Safety section to distill the relevant legal requirements. While deepfakes aren’t inherently illegal, he understands that certain content types require removal within 4-24 hours if he receives a takedown notice from the regulator (MOCI). He seeks further clarification from Sherman and flags the issue as urgent.

Late Afternoon: Loot Boxes
In the late afternoon, BJ from the Game Development team sends a message: “Hey heads up that we’re planning to add loot boxes to the game next Q.”
With KnowledgeKit, Jim knows that evaluating loot boxes isn’t just about a yes or no: it requires understanding the exact loot box mechanism and how it maps to five distinct tiers, each carrying different compliance requirements and risks. Here’s how KnowledgeKit breaks them down:

Glossary — Loot Box Tiers
Since BJ is from the Japan games team, Jim checks the Japan page and immediately spots a sixth, country-specific category: kompu gacha. Under the Act Against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations, this mechanism (a specific configuration of loot box where a very rare prize can be obtained only when a certain number of other relatively rare prizes are obtained through the purchase of a huge number of paid tickets to open loot boxes) is strictly prohibited for all games in Japan for all age groups, due to its tendency to cause consumer harm.
This nuanced mapping gives Jim and the game team a clear path to identifying the relevant regulatory risks before moving forward. He hops on a quick huddle with BJ to clarify which loot box model they’re contemplating and discuss next steps with compliance in mind.
Evening: Staying Ahead with Real-Time Updates
Before wrapping up, Jim reviews the Latest Updates tracker — a continuously refreshed feed highlighting new legal developments. Each update is summarised and linked to its source, ensuring that teams stay proactively informed as the regulatory environment evolves.
