GCE 2.21 Release Notes

Family Portal

In this release, we’ve introduced several enhancements to the Family Portal, with a special focus on streamlining the Verifiable Parental Consent (VPC) experience. ✨

Data Notice Pop-Up

To further enhance transparency, the data notice is now delivered via a pop-up whenever a parent grants access to a new child from the Product Details page in the Family Portal. This pop-up clearly outlines the data elements collected by the product or game, and provides direct links to the developer’s terms of service and privacy policy.

By delivering these important information at the most relevant moment, we help ensure parents stay informed and empowered.

Permissions Management

Managing permissions in the VPC flow is now even smoother. When a parent toggles specific permissions and continues through the flow, their selections are automatically saved. ✅ If they decide to go back and adjust their choices, all previously selected permissions are preserved, making the process more intuitive and reliable.

“What is k-ID?” Pop-Up

We’ve updated the button label in the VPC flow from “Who’s k-ID?” to “What is k-ID?”, and refreshed the accompanying pop-up copy. This update provides parents a clearer, more helpful introduction to k-ID, especially for those encountering it for the first time.

k-ID Email Opt-In Checkbox

Building on last week’s Release 2.20, the new k-ID Email Opt-In Checkbox is now available in more places. Parents can now choose to receive product updates and helpful tips from k-ID not only during the VPC flow, but also at account registration and within the Family Portal’s Account Settings.

Product API

We’ve updated the /age-gate/check API to better support scenarios where all of a user’s sessions have been revoked. Now, even if a user’s sessions have been revoked by a parent, the API can still accept a kuid and respond according to the last known age and jurisdiction from the most recent session — even if that session is no longer active. This enhancement allows you to re-initiate the age gate and VPC process without requiring the user to re-enter their age, improving both compliance and user experience.
