GCE 2.36 Release Notes

New Australia Verification Method: ConnectID

We’ve added a new verification method in Australia — ConnectID. ConnectID is Australia’s digital identity exchanged operated by Australian Payments Plus (AP+). The service enables age verification by connecting users with identity providers they already have relationships with, such as their banks.

Family Connect: Player-Managed Sessions

Users who are above the digital consent age in their country (usually teens) are assigned “Player-Managed” sessions — this can happen either when the user first accesses your app, game or website, or when they “age up” and our system detects they are now old enough to manage their own sessions.

If a Trusted Adult tries to revoke access to an app, game, or website during a “Player-Managed” session, we’ve now introduced a new message explaining that the user is old enough to manage their own access. Therefore, the Trusted Adult cannot delete the user’s profile in Family Connect, but they can still adjust permissions they have authority over.

Get Age Category API

We’ve carved out access to our /age-gate/check-age-category API, which will soon be available as a new standalone product offering. This means that it would then be possible to sign up for and specifically utilise this API key only. The API takes a user’s age and location, and returns their age category: Digital Minor, Digital Youth or Legal Adult (for an explanation on what each age category means, check out this blogpost: Understanding Age Requirements).

We’d love to hear from you!
